Windows 7 Superbar for XP by haran-hockey Windows 7 Superbar for XP by haran-hockey
UPDATED

This is a tutorial on how to get Windows 7 Superbar in Windows XP.

1. First download Winstep 8.11: [link]

2. Right click on the taskbar on an application, go to Tasklist settings>Tasklist icon size>32 x 32.

2.5. If you want icon only(like in screenshot), right click again and go to Tasklist settings>click show icon labels which unchecks it.

3. Download my Windows 7 skin I created by clicking on the download link near top left of page.

4. Double click the file that you just downloaded.

5. If the theme doesn't open automatically after you double click on file, right click the arrow on the far right of the superbar>Themes>Windows 7

6. Go to the preferences by right clicking the icon in the toolbar and go to the 3rd tab. Make sure to change Task Grouping to Group Similar to get the effect shown in screenshot with 2 or more windows showing on hover over.

7. Enjoy

UPDATED:

- Changed taskbar colour

- CLOCK IS NOW WHITE! - Thanks go to jcrabbit

- Changed start buttons

- Changed taskbar buttons

- Made separators transparent

- Made taskbar buttons rectangular like the Windows 7 buttons

Please list any bugs, changes or improvements I can make on my skin.

Please give feedback on new taskbar colour. Is it better and/or is there a better colour for the taskbar?

I haven't update in like forever because I don't use the program anymore, and Winstep has released so many versions after 8.11. You can try reading the instructions again I guess but sorry if it's not working.

Sorry, I only made the skin. Any effects would have to do with Winstep. I personally don't use Winstep anymore, but maybe the new versions have fading effects, I honestly have no idea.

May I suggest support for the Windows Media Player taskbar thing? Whenever I minimize Windows Media Player, it usually goes into the taskbar and has it's own little box. With this it just disappears and I have to close WMP with Task Manager. Otherwise, this is pretty good ;P

First of all, I never designed the program, Winstep, just the skin. But I do believe the newest version may have the WMP integration you're talking about. I don't use Winstep anymore so I really have no idea what's been added and stuff since then.

Nevermind, in the time I waited for your response I just got Winamp and a really cool skin for it, and made the play/pause button on my keyboard work with it, as well as some other cool tricks. I love your skin though, it's the only reason I care it's a 30 day trial, I want to have it forever. Great work :)

I'm so confused. I downloaded winstep and it put a bunch of stuff on my desktop...a dock, a wierd program on the bottom above my taskber that has the tabs "main, desktop, recent, control panel, quick launch, themes, tasks. Your tutorial doesn't match up.

:iconharan-hockey:

And also, my tutorial is prob outdated cuz I believe Winstep is at 10.3 or something like that, so a lot has changed/added and stuff.

The thing with Winstep is that it comes with all of those things. I only made a skin for the taskbar. You'll have to right click and close everything else. I'm not really sure how cuz I don't use Winstep anymore. But just play around with it and hopefully you'll get it :)

Oh I figured it out I jus had to restart it. But still that doesn't look like windows 7 at al, it's black and green and doesn't have a start orb like the one in your picture.

hehe me too but I know there's a way to replace it with the default start menu

I'm not really sure how to do it because I don't use Winstep anymore but try right clicking the start button and explore around in the properties too. Also, google can be your friend. :P

i found an option to use the default windows start menu just now :D. Right clicked the start button and clicked "Associate to Windows Start Menu." I'm still looking for a way to do the same with right click menu's though.
